As I said in another tread: I agree that it is hard for systems that have evaporation in the outdoor unit to have an accurate way of detect when they need to do a defrost. I do not belive your proposal is good or even feasible since a totally clogged evaporator would have a flow close to zero wich would make the fan power to drop rather than increase which I assume you is thinking of using?
Thermia Atria measure the difference between the outdoor air and the return temperature of the brine from the outdoor unit. When this difference gets too big the system calls for a defrost.
